Why Gutter Cleaning?
Proper and regular gutter cleaning can help you to protect and prevent significant damage to your home.
Debris from trees and roof surfaces eventually end up in our gutter systems and if not properly maintained can allow destructive forces to begin to work against you and your home. We have all seen evidence of clogged gutters: gutters filled with leaves and debris, waterfalls showering rain water over-flowing from gutters, and in some cases plants actually growing in and out of the gutter. While everybody loves a waterfall it’s not so pretty when it’s coming from your gutter. And though at times it may be an enjoyable sight it can allow several destructive forces to begin to destroy your home. But there is also unseen evidence that eventually can damage our homes and cost us much much more than regularly having our gutters inspected and properly cleaned.
Extra Weight – Clogged gutters allow unnecessary water to sit in the gutter adding additional weight to your homes roof system. Two inches of standing water in your 30 foot by 4 inch gutter adds over 300 pounds of extra weight pressing down on your gutter and your roof system. Now I don’t know about you but if I saw a 300 pound man hanging from my gutter I would get a little bit upset, but we seldom think of the impact that water. It’s a simple process and equation: a malfunctioning gutter = excess water = more weight = more structural stress = more potential for damage = more costly repairs.
Rot/decay/unwanted house guests – Over flowing malfunctioning gutters can allow damaging water to also exit into areas of your roof and wall structures causing decay and dry rot that weaken those structures leading to costly repairs. Those moist and weaken structures can become home too and breeding grounds for unwanted house guests like mold, mildew, termites, wasps, algae, moss, and lichen which themselves can create even more unwanted and costly problems.
Foundation Problems – Excess water that ends up around your foundation can cause severe and costly damage not only to the foundation of your home but if the foundation is severely damaged that can cause severe structural damage to your home. Water that is not properly diverted away from your foundation not only can lead to severe structural damage but can end up inside your basement or crawl spaces and can create even more unhealthy conditions for you and your family.
Proper and regular gutter cleaning can help you to protect and prevent significant damage to your home, and harm to yourself and your family.
